Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to common questions from Kenyan farmers.
What fertilizer is best for maize in Kenya?
Apply DAP (18-46-0) at planting at 50kg per acre for root development, then top-dress with CAN (26% N) at 50kg per acre 4–6 weeks after emergence. On acidic soils, apply lime first. A foliar feed at flowering boosts final yield.
How do I control fall armyworm?
Spray a systemic insecticide such as Rocket (Emamectin Benzoate) at 20g per 20L water or Belt (Chlorantraniliprole) at 10ml per 20L water, directing the nozzle into the maize whorl. Start at the first sign of damage and repeat after 14 days.
What is the difference between DAP and CAN?
DAP is a phosphorus-rich planting fertilizer (18-46-0) used at sowing for root development. CAN is a nitrogen-rich top-dressing fertilizer (26% N) applied 4–6 weeks after emergence for vegetative growth. Use both for a full maize programme.
Where can I buy certified seed maize in Nairobi?
